The point of sale (POS) or point of purchase (POP) is referred to the time and place where a transaction in retail is completed. At the point of sale, the merchant evaluates the amount owed by the purchaser. Then, he indicates the amount, and prepares an invoice for the customer (which may be a cash register printout). Further, he indicates the options for the customer to make payment. Customer also makes a payment to the merchant in exchange for goods or after provision of a service. After receiving payment, the merchant can issue a receipt for the transaction made, which is usually in printed form, and is increasingly dispensed with or sent electronically.
